LE BASSIN D’ARCACHON

A history

In 1823, a sailor by the name of François Legallais opened a sea bathing establishment aimed at a wealthy clientele. The journey at the time was tedious.
Wealthy bankers from Bordeaux, the Pereire brothers, developed summer and spa tourism. They acquired the land in what was then the forest of Arcachon where they founded the Ville d’Hiver. From then on, the town never ceased to be enriched with establishments encouraging luxury and relaxation.

A tour in pinnaces

These boats were originally used for fishing or oyster farming. Later they were used for boat trips from Arcachon. During the 20th century, they became pleasure boats. These pinnaces were equipped with all the modern comforts. They represent the majority of the pinnaces that we meet nowadays on the harbours of the Bay of Arcachon. They are often made of composite materials. Modern pinnaces are now rarely built in pine wood. They nevertheless retain their characteristic silhouette.

The Bay of Arcachon offers magnificent landscapes.

Through a traditional boat tour of the basin, you will be able to discover the beauty of the wild beaches, slalom between the “cabanes tchanquées” and admire the Dune du Pyla from a unique point of view.

Between L’Ile aux Oiseaux and the oyster huts you will be immersed in the traditions of Arcachon and enjoy a seafood platter in the heart of the countryside.

A summer evening

To end a beautiful sunny day, La Corniche welcomes you in an idyllic setting.

La Corniche is a place with extraordinary coordinates. The figurehead of the Pilat-Plage district, the watchtower of the Arcachon basin, leaning against the highest dune in Europe, it is suspended between sky and sea, anchored between sand and pine forest.

The authenticity of the Basque house has been preserved and the spirit of an oyster farm has been added to the panorama.

The hotel, the restaurant, the terrace and its bar are made in an essential and familiar luxury. Like a lively village square, La Corniche is dedicated to all lovers of the basin. Between intimacy and discretion, they are invited here to a perpetual party, where they can experience moments to suit their desires.
